Some Cool Facts about Pandas

I don’t know about you, but I think Pandas are so cool. I love them. Recently I’ve been reading quite a lot about Pandas and found some cool facts about them. So read some cool facts about Pandas here!

  • Almost all Pandas just eat bamboo leaves and shoots. But it doesn’t have much nutritional value.
  • Pandas live a low-energy, sedentary lifestyle, it’s mainly because their digestive system cannot digest cellulose well and it doesn’t get much nutrition or energy to be active.
  • One of the main reason why WWF chose Panda to be their logo: They wanted an animal that had an impact in black and white to save money on printing costs.
  • Female pandas ovulate once a year and are fertile for only two or three days.
  • Did you know that Pandas lack visual memory? They rely on spatial memory completely.
  • A newborn panda cub is 1/900th the size of its mother. It weighs between four and six ounces.
  • The first panda came to the United States in 1936 – a cub to a zoo in Chicago. The second one came after another 50 years. Yes Pandas are that rare! :/
  • Giant pandas have lived in the bamboo forests of China for millions years and have been honored by the Chinese for a very long time.
  • People from ancient China thought that giant pandas have some mystical powers, and they could ward off evil spirits and natural disasters. And thus came “Kung Fu Panda”. :D
  • Did you know that Pandas are good swimmers?
  • Only 1,000 giant pandas are left in the wild.
